The Art of hand painted photography with oil glazes dates back to the Nineteenth Century. Karen Vournakis' work continues this tradition. She explores the world using black and white film, then returns to the studio to add color by hand painting the gelatin silver photograph. By layering transparent pigments directly onto the photograph, she transforms the image and creates a true blend of photography and painting.
